2012 Bible Reading Plan

THE HEART OF THE PROPHETS is a Bible reading plan for 2012 in which you can read all the prophetic writings of the Old Testament in a year! The schedule is below. Here’s how it works…

  1. Decide on a good time of the day to read and ponder God’s Word and set that time aside. You may decide to read first thing in the morning, last thing before going to bed, meal time, in traffic, or whenever is best for you. You may want to use a physical Bible or an electronic version on the internet or your favorite device. Just make time to focus your heart and minimize distractions.
  2. The prophetic books “exhort us about the rewards of covenant obedience and warn us of the discipline of disobedience under the old covenant so that we are challenged to maintain our heart for God and our just treatment of others as we live under the new covenant.” They also “give us glimpses into the immediate future of God’s people or into the distant future of the messianic/new covenant era and the superseding blessing of life in this climatic era.”* So as you read through them ask the following  questions:
    • “What does this passage or oracle tell us about Israel’s behavior inher covenantal relationship with God and about God’s response to His people, and those areas that we may also e suceptible to neglect within our new covenant relationship?”*
    • “What does this passage or oracle tell us about God’s plans for Israel (no past) or His plans for His new covenant people (now present or still future)?”*
  3. You may want to write a response in a journal.
  4. This reading plan is designed to read all the prophetic books of the Old Testament in one year at a pace of one chapter a day on weekdays only. This allows for breaks on Sundays to focus on your pastor’s message. Also, if you have a mid-week service or Bible study you can skip reading on that day and make up a chapter on Saturday.

May God bless your journey as you study and meditate on His Word!
